Transform sporadic feedback collection into a systematic online user research approach that delivers continuous insights

From sporadic pop-ups to systematic user research
Prior to implementing Leanlab, Duunitori faced some challenges with their user research and engagement. The team relied primarily on website surveys, which, while providing some input, weren't delivering the quality of insights needed for informed decision-making. The process was time-consuming, with a high volume of responses from random website visitors that needed to be filtered and analysed. More importantly, there was no way to maintain ongoing dialogue with users or build a community of engaged participants.
We needed a more systematic way to conduct user research. Our previous approach wasn't delivering the quality insights needed for informed decision-making.
Silja Rajamäki, Service Designer, Duunitori
To tackle the challenges Duunitori established a dedicated customer lab for online user research using Leanlab's platform. Leanlab provides them with:
- 200 Duunitori users recruited into private customer lab
- Mixed-methods for agile online user research
- Access to relevant participants for testing
- All user research data and insights in one place
Duunitoori is engaging with their customer lab participants on a monthly basis. Due to the nature of job seeking that usually is periodic, Duunitori recruits new members to their lab from time to time.
Keeping the lab active has however not been an issue, but both recruitment and member activation is seen as smooth and don’t require a lot of effort.

Online user research provides quick insights for faster decision making
Leanlab has significantly helped Duunitori to transform its research capabilities. What once took weeks of setup and recruitment can now be accomplished in just a few days, enabling the team to be much more agile in their decision-making process.
The platform significantly lowers the barrier for user testing - meaning that we can assess even subtle changes in user flows and designs that we wouldn’t haven’t been able to test before
Nuutti Aalto, Senior Product Designer, Duunitori
This ability to conduct rapid research has led to a more systematic approach to user involvement, with regular monthly activities and a mix of both quick evaluative user tests and more generative research initiatives. Leanlab has made substantial investments in integrating generative and evaluative user research methods, creating a comprehensive approach that spans the entire service creation process—from initial opportunity mapping to final solution development.
Previously, we might have relied on gut feeling for many decisions, which could have led us in the wrong direction. Now we can quickly validate our assumptions with real users.

Practical applications across product development
Duunitori has found numerous valuable applications for their customer lab across their product development cycle. The platform has become a part of their decision-making process, supporting various research needs:
- Quick prototype and concept tests
The team regularly conducts for example A/B testing of design concepts, allowing them to validate new features and improvements before full implementation. Quick preference tests for UI decisions have also become a regular part of their development process, enabling rapid iteration and improvement.
- Customer Journey research
To gain more comprehensive insight into the job seeking process Duunitori has used a diary study. The study allowed participants to explain how they were looking for jobs over the course of a few weeks. This enabled deeper insight into user journeys, providing valuable insights into how job seekers interact with the Duunitori platform over time.
- Efficient recruitment for video interviews
Leanlab has also proven valuable for recruiting participants for in-depth user testing sessions, with the added benefit that these users are already familiar with Duunitori's commitment to user-centred design and there is a minimal ghosting for interviews. The recruitment process itself is also really fast and smooth on the platform.
- Crowdsourcing new development ideas
In addition to specific feature tests or activities, Duunitori uses an open discussion forum, where users can continuously provide feedback and suggestions. The forum has proven to be a source of some really good and comprehensive development ideas that Duunitori has been able to take further and that they would not have gained without the platform.
Key benefits of using Leanlab
- Instant access to customers:
"Having a pool of engaged users means we don't need to start recruitment from scratch every time we need feedback. This is a huge contributor to test more frequently"
- Efficient research process
"We can quickly put together a small test in minutes and get valuable user feedback - something we would never have done before Leanlab."
- Data-driven decisions
"It's much easier to justify design decisions when you can show that 40 users support a particular direction rather than just relying on gut feeling. This helps to offload excess stress from the design work."
Leanlab transforms customer engagement from a complex task to an effortless process, providing the ability to run quick tests at a moment's notice.
